Keeping Your Balance

I’ve heard it said recently that balance is overrated although I tend to disagree.

Balance does not mean that everything is perfect. That there are no bumps along the way and everything is smooth sailing everyday. On the contrary, balance comes about because there are upheavals and blind spots and crazy life coming at us. It’s in this crazy life that we actually learn how to balance. Without it we would find no need to have balance, less the pursuit of it.

Since I was a young mother I craved balance, and worked quite hard to achieve it for my family. Things got wild and crazy with chronic illness, teenage hormones and the like. The funny thing is is that when life was at its most chaotic is when I experienced the most balance in life.

Remember riding that two wheeler as a kid, how wobbly you were? That’s how it is navigating life. The thing is, that much of the time when things get difficult, we think we can just keep on sailing without any wobbles at all. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s okay to have some wobbles, even some spills. My biggest spill came right before I finally got my balance. I had to get back up and try again. I’m so glad I did because I was able to balance way better than ever before.

Now, things that would have sent me spilling in the past aren’t as big a deal. Sure I wobble occasionally.

I’m still human! Maybe one day I will have a spill again, but this doesn’t stop me from continuing to have as beautiful balance as possible today. Balance which without would be hard to navigate the storms of life.

What about you, do you think balance is overrated?

Much love

Connie

P.S. Stay tuned for my next post when I talk about where balance comes from.
